Planner Girl Collective - My Journey

Planners - My Journey - Joanna`s Planner

This is the theme we have been allocated this week and it has certainly made me think.

'Planners' are certainly very popular right now and are used in many ways.  From life planning through to Journaling they are being adapted by all those who use them.

I was first attracted to the Erin Condren planner a few years ago when it first came on the market but it was sooo expensive.  Especially for something I was not sure I would use to its full potential, so I looked for a cheaper alternative and got myself a personal planner from Sweden.  These are fabulous starter planners although nowadays there are so many more on the market and so much choice.

I looked at my first planner as being a little like my 1980's Filofax with bells on.  What I didn't realise was how it was going to fill a large crafting gap.....not only that, but it started to fill my very large memory gap.  In fact the whole concept just exploded....

Life planning,
Meal planning
Weight loss journal
Medical stuff
Major 'to do' list
Many people also incorporate habit trackers in order to set new routines (I have not really done this yet)

And most importantly it has made me take 'me time' every week just to create, decorate and relax.

The planning concept can be started immediately with a guided life planner such as Inkwell Press but mine has been very organic from from the start with a pre-printed, pre-decorated bound planner, to what is now basically a grid on a piece of paper.  I initially loved all the `decorated with sticker` set ups that are posted on social media, but I soon realised that this was a whole bag of worms.

I started by learning to make my own stickers but that didn't last long once I had realised I had an entire craft room at my disposal.

inky techniques
I could practice stamping and inking techniques.  I could try a little art journaling.  I could use my bead stash to make planner charms.  Pockets could be made with decorative paper and ephemera.  The planner person who crafts is only limited by their imagination.

Best of all I get to enjoy my creations, and in that enjoyment I am revisiting my goal setting pages on a regular basis.  Positive affirmations every week are also good for emotional well being and motivational in helping us achieve our goals.  I am gaining the satisfaction of colouring in my 'yellow brick road'. Every success is documented.

Recently I have been asked to do some planner lessons but oh boy where to start because everyone will have their own vision.  Or, perhaps having reviewed what I have just written they need a inspiration board...what do you think would help you?

want to see what the rest of the collective think about their journeys?
